Unlike a gym-based PT, training at Lambert Sports Clinic means Andy works alongside our physiotherapy and sports medicine team. If an injury flares up, our physio is next door. If your goals include weight loss, our nutritionist and blood testing services are available in the same clinic.
This integrated approach means your programme is always safe, progressive, and aligned with your wider health — not just your fitness targets.

The Lambert Advantage
Why training at a clinic is different from training at a gym
Physio on Site
If a niggle appears during training, our chartered physiotherapists are in the next room. You get clinical support without breaking your training schedule.
Blood Testing & Nutrition
Our blood testing service and nutritionist help identify hormonal, metabolic and nutritional factors that affect body composition and energy — available in the same clinic.
AlterG & Gait Technology
Runners and endurance athletes can use our AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill and AI Gait Analysis to train smarter and reduce injury risk.
GP & Medical Services
Our sister clinic Lambert Medical Practice provides private GP appointments, health checks, and medical clearance for exercise — all under one roof.
Personal Training Programmes
Three specialist programme types, each with a different focus
Performance & Fitness
For athletes, runners, triathletes, and fitness enthusiasts. This programme uses periodised training — carefully planned cycles of training intensity, volume, and recovery — to build fitness, improve performance metrics, and peak for events. Andy brings real-world endurance experience and creates progressive programmes that build from base fitness through strength phases to high-intensity and competition-specific work. Includes VO2 max testing, threshold training, race preparation, and post-event recovery planning.
Ideal for: Competitive athletes, marathon runners, triathletes, gym enthusiasts wanting structured periodised training.
Injury Recovery & Return to Sport
For people recovering from injury or surgery who want to rebuild fitness alongside physiotherapy. This programme bridges the gap between rehabilitation (where movement is limited) and full training (where all movements are permitted). It builds progressively from the safe exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist, through graded strength work, to sport or activity-specific training. Close coordination with our physio team ensures you never exceed tissue healing timelines. Training adjusts week-to-week based on pain levels and progress.
Ideal for: Post-injury, post-surgery, returning to sport after time off, managing chronic pain during training.
Weight Management & Body Composition
For those wanting sustainable fat loss and improved body composition. This combines progressive exercise prescription (mix of resistance training, cardiovascular work, and functional movement) with nutritional guidance and monitoring. If joint pain limits conventional exercise, the AlterG treadmill enables pain-free training. Regular body composition tracking (not just weight) shows actual progress as muscle is built and fat is lost. Can include blood testing and metabolic assessment to identify factors blocking weight loss.
Ideal for: Weight loss, body composition change, people with joint pain limiting exercise, post-operative fitness rebuilding.
Training in a Clinical Environment — Why It Matters
Personal training at Lambert Sports Clinic is fundamentally different from gym-based personal training. While a gym PT works in a commercial fitness environment, our personal training happens within a CQC-registered clinical facility alongside physiotherapists, sports massage therapists, and connections to medical care.
What this means for you: Your training programme is informed by clinical knowledge of injury, movement dysfunction, and rehabilitation. If you have a history of injury, chronic pain, or are recovering from surgery, your programme takes this into account. If pain flares during training, our physiotherapist is in the next room for advice. If you develop a niggle, we can assess it immediately and adjust your training rather than telling you to see a physio elsewhere.
CQC registration: Unlike most personal training studios, we're independently regulated. This means clinical safety protocols, equipment maintenance standards, infection control, and staff competency checks are verified by the Care Quality Commission — not just self-declared. If you have medical conditions or are taking medications that affect exercise, you can be confident we understand medical complexities that gym PTs may not.
Integrated care: Our team includes physios, sports therapists, nutritionists, and access to private GP services next door. Your training programme can be coordinated with any other services you're using.
Clinical Environment Advantages
- Movement assessment: Andy can identify movement dysfunction and correct patterns, not just count reps
- Injury awareness: Training is adjusted for any injury history, current pain, or medical conditions
- Immediate physio access: If pain occurs, physiotherapy support is immediate
- Holistic programme: Nutrition, sleep, recovery, and stress management are all considered
- Medical oversight: For clients with complex health needs, GP oversight is available
- Equipment standards: All equipment is CQC-checked and properly maintained
Gym PT vs. Clinical PT
Gym PT: General fitness, programme design, motivation, injury-free clients typically
Clinical PT at Lambert: Fitness + injury awareness + movement dysfunction + rehab coordination + access to physio, massage, nutrition, and medical services
What a Personal Training Programme Looks Like
Initial Consultation
Free 20-30 minute consultation with Andy. Discuss goals, fitness history, any injuries, lifestyle, and what you want to achieve. No pressure — just an honest conversation about what's realistic.
Fitness Assessment
First paid session includes fitness testing: strength baseline, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, movement quality. This establishes starting point and identifies any restrictions or concerns.
Programme Design
Andy designs a progressive programme tailored to your goals, fitness level, and schedule. Initial phase typically 4-6 weeks building solid fundamentals before increasing intensity.
Weekly Training Sessions
1:1 sessions with Andy typically 1-3x per week depending on your goals. Each session is planned, progressive, and focuses on both exercise delivery and movement quality.
Home Programme
Between sessions, you perform home exercises (typically 2-3 times per week). Andy provides written or video instructions, and you report back on how you got on at your next session.
Fortnightly Reviews
Every 2 weeks, Andy reviews progress: are you stronger? Fitter? Closer to your goal? Programme adjusts based on what's working and any obstacles encountered.
Phase Progression
Every 4-6 weeks, the training phase changes: new exercises, different intensities, updated focus. This keeps training effective and prevents plateauing.
Ongoing Support
Many clients train long-term. As you reach goals, new goals emerge. Training evolves: from building fitness to maintaining it, optimising performance, or tackling new challenges.
Personal Training and Health Insurance
Standard personal training: Pure fitness-focused personal training is generally not covered by private health insurance. It's considered lifestyle/wellness rather than medical care.
Rehabilitation-focused training: However, if your personal training is prescribed as part of rehabilitation following injury or surgery, some insurers do cover it. The key is that the training is medical necessity rather than lifestyle choice.
When to check with your insurer: If you're recovering from injury or surgery and want personal training as part of your return-to-function programme, contact your insurer and mention that training is rehabilitation-focused. Many insurers will cover a proportion of sessions if they're medically prescribed and co-ordinated with physiotherapy.
Check Insurance Coverage →What to Tell Your Insurer
If asking about insurance coverage for personal training, mention:
- "I'm recovering from [injury/surgery] and want structured personal training to rebuild fitness and function"
- "The training is prescribed by my physiotherapist as part of my rehabilitation"
- "It's in a CQC-registered clinic with physio supervision"
- Ask what proportion they cover and if pre-authorisation is needed
Pure fitness training: Is not covered, but rehabilitation-focused training often is. We can help clarify the distinction for your insurer.

Why CQC Registration Sets Us Apart
Most physiotherapy clinics in England are not required to register with the Care Quality Commission. Lambert Sports Clinic has voluntarily registered — submitting to the same independent inspections, safety audits, and clinical governance standards as NHS providers, hospitals, and GP surgeries.
Our infection control procedures, safeguarding policies, staff competency checks, and patient safety standards are independently verified — not just self-certified. When you choose Lambert Sports Clinic, you receive an extra layer of accountability and clinical protection that the vast majority of private clinics simply cannot offer.
